Over the last 6 weeks West Riding FA have provided an opportunity for Girls to take part in weekly football coaching sessions at the school. This lead onto success in an indoor football game against Harrogate High School and a Year 10 Tournament at Rossett on their 3G pitch where success was found for Nidderdale. Well done to all the girls that took part you certainly made us all proud. Looking forward to more victories this year.
Matching the success of England’s Women’s Football Team!!
On Thursday 24th October the year 10s made the trip to Ripon Outwood for their first rugby fixture of the term.
It was commented from a number of people watching the game of the quality of the match in general and considering it was the first run out this year it was a very encouraging effort. After an early 2 tries from the hosts, Tom Mann broke through a number of tackles to score underneath the posts, which he easily converted. The score at half time was 10-7.
However Nidderdale didn’t have a great start to the second half with Ripon Outwood extending the score to 24-7 before Joe Wilson could make an impact by scoring in the corner. Tom Mann scored a second try underneath the posts to make the score 31-19 with 2 minutes to go, which was the final score of the game.
Despite the loss it was positive to see the attitude of the lads who themselves said with practice they have the potential of a good side!
On Thursday the 17th of October the Year 7 Rugby Team played against Outwood Academy Ripon. The game started off with both teams looking evenly matched for the first 10 minutes but it was Outwood who took the lead with two consecutive early tries. However, the Nidderdale team didn’t lose their composure and soon brought the game back into reach with some strong running from Jaydon and creativity shown from the centre with the superb combination of Jack MJack K and Adam B.
The second third was hard fought and evenly contested throughout with very little separating the two teams. However the creativity of Jack Mallinson and superb kicking kept Nidderdale in the game.
Going into the final third, Nidderdale were narrowly behind but thanks to quick tries from Adam B and Jack M and some superb defensive work from Reuben D, Lucas H, Jacob C and Dan H Nidderdale came away with a well deserved victory. Overall it was a superb performance especially as it was the first competitive match for the majority of the team. Well Done!
House Sport competitions
This week has seen the first round of House competitions, this included: Netball, Volleyball and Badminton. It included competitive competitors, passionate pupils about their House, Loyal leaders and finally fun for all, including the staff badminton competition on Friday. Here are just some of pics that capture the weeks events.
leaders helped with different roles, this included using the tab to keep score- very important job from Jack
After a defeat last week both the Year 7 & 8 Netball teams came back with determination, resulting in a spectacular win against Ripon Outwood last Thursday night. The year 7 team played first, seeing a great improvement from the week before, keeping the Mollie and Nina duo at GS & GA worked well, paying off in a 6-0 win. Then year 8 played with Alice as GS seeing her consistently perform well gaining 5 goals for Nidderdale. It wasn’t all one sided though as Evelyn had to work hard as GD to keep on top of the Ripon GA. In the end we came away with a 5-2 victory which was well deserved. This made my day, which was very needed after spraining my ankle so a big thank you girls, you certainly cheered me up!! I am now eager to take on more challenging teams. Bring on the winter season. Miss Pugh
On Thursday 17th October, the football first XI was part of a number of successful teams competing at Outwood Academy Ripon.
Nidderdale started off with a bang, bagging 3 goals within the first 15 minutes (goals from Richard Ellis and a double strike from Eddie Corps) to take the advantage. For the rest of the half Nidderdale looked fairly comfortable until 2 minutes until half time when Outwood scored from a corner.
An own goal at the start of the second half and another Eddie Corps goal to complete the hat trick put Nidderdale 5-1 up. Outwood scored 2 consolation goals making the final score 5-3 to Nidderdale. A great effort from all the boys! Well done and roll on the cup!
On Monday, Nidderdale entered 4 mixed volleyball teams from years 7 & 8 in a competition held at Harrogate Grammar School. The teams found themselves fiercely contested as the tournament was made up of 14 teams from Rossett, St John Fishers and host school, Harrogate Grammar.
The teams came up against some stiff opposition with many of the other students playing volleyball at club level. Volleyball is in its early stages of development at Nidderdale, with most of the students having only played a few times at the new lunchtime volleyball club that has been introduced this term.
Never the less the Nidderdale teams did not look out of their comfort zone with one team, made up of Joe Fearnley, Alice Mann and Josh McKittrick (certificates in pic) winning their group and finishing 4th overall which was a terrific effort. However congratulations needs to go out to everyone involved for the attitude and progression they made in such a short period of time!!! Well done!!
Continue coming to lunchtime club as further competitions will be coming soon! In the meantime house volleyball is going on in school w/c 14th Oct.
