On Thursday the 12th of December a mixed age group Basketball team from Nidderdale travelled to Menwith Hill. This was the first in hopefully a series of games to played at this fantastic facility. The Nidderdale team although lacking game experience (ranging from between 0 and 2 previous competitive games) convincingly made up for this with hard work and enthusiasm. The game finished with Nidderdale scoring 31 points to Menwith Hills 74. Although Nidderdale were out of touch it was a very respectable score line. Only 4 other teams in Menwith Hill’s previous 50 games had taken as many points! A fantastic start to what will be a busy few months for Nidderdale’s Basketball teams. lm sure everyone involved will be looking forward to the return game in January!
On Monday, the year 8 football team travelled to Harrogate High School (HHS) to play a friendly fixture under the floodlights. The team was made up of Leon Gale, Jacob Wass, Jack Kirk, Joe Fearnley, Oliver Fryer, Jack Mallinson, Toby Blunstone, Connor Churcher, Henry Vlahovic, Connor Duffus, and Neil Marsden.
The start had a scrappy feel to it, but after the initial exchanges, Nidderdale looked the better of the 2 teams capped with a powerful Neil Marsden that struck the post. However it was HHS who took the lead and Nidderdale went into the break 1-0 down.
After the half time break Nidderdale came out quickly and grabbed 2 goals scored by Connor Duffus and Neil Marsden. Nidderdale looked in control but some individual brilliance from HHS number 7, saw the host school go 3-2 up with little time left to play. Despite a late effort from Nidderdale and a Man of the Match performance from Joe Fearnley the score finished HHS 3-2 Nidderdale.
Again the improvement being shown from this year group is fantastic and there is no doubt that soon that first win will happen. Training Wednesday lunch times.
