Sky Sports- athlete mentor

We were very privileged to welcome Paul Broadbent to our school on Friday 16th May for one of two sessions working with students across all year groups. Paul is a real star of Rugby League. In a career spanning 17 years, prop forward Paul represented England and Great Britain, playing over 450 first grade games for teams including Sheffield Eagles, Halifax, Hull and Wakefield.
Paul now has a role as an Athlete Mentor for Sky Sports Living for Sport and explained to our students that they don’t have to be naturally gifted in sport or anything else they enjoy to succeed in it. Passion, determination, self-belief and commitment can outshine any talent.
We look forward to welcoming Paul back in June for a further session where he will focus on Literacy.{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252

Nidderdale Progress in Cricket County Cup

Nidderdale High Schools under 14 cricket team made the long journey to Norton College (Malton) in the first round of the North Yorkshire county cup.
Norton batted first in the 16 overs a side match and made a very good 102-7. Nidderdale stuck with their task really well throughout and despite a large number of extras, did really well in keeping the target down to as low as they did. Catching played a big part and Nidderdale caught really well with catches from Oliver Fryer, Gus Gardner, and Toby Blunstone.
Nidderdale’s opening pair were explosive from the off, non more so than Harry Smith who smashed his second ball for a huge straight 6 into a tree. The partnership from Smith and Fryer took Nidderdale to within touching distance of the win but fell just before the end, Smith for 51 and Fryer for 30. But Gus Gardner and Alex Vlahovic saw Nidderdale home and victorious. A fantastic effort against a much larger school.
Next round is either Rossett or Bedale… Watch this space!

Nidderdale Training Partnership with Menwith Hill

This week saw the first joint basketball training session between Nidderdale High School and Menwith Hill. The sessions aimed at primarily developing skills and friendships between the 2 sets of players was held at the Menwith base and run by their American coach. The sessions also shows the growing partnership between the 2 teams and so hopefully more will be put on in the bear future.
All players said they were tired, but gained a great deal from the experience.
