Courageous Caving in Longchurn!!! 15.01.19

Our Tuesday Y10 team tackled the challenge of caving in Longchurns with a great positive attitude! They squeezed through gaps, traversed rocks and climbed up waterfalls. They encouraged each other to overcome challenges by working well as a team! ūüėä

Rugby extravaganza at Nidderdale

On Thursday 17th January, Year 7, 8 and 9 all took on Ilkley Grammar School in their 1st rugby games of the school year. Although the scorelines weren’t in Nidderdale’s favour, all 38 lads demonstrated a fantastic attitude, which will help with their progression as we participate in more fixtures.

Inter-House Competition Heats Up

Yesterday it was time for Yr9 to step up for their houses and come together as three teams in an attempt to become victorious in Netball and Rugby.

It was the turn of the Yr9 girls to demonstrate their skills in Netball yesterday and gain the much coveted house points. Penn-Y-Ghent put their best foot forwards and went in with a winning attitude which helped lead them to a win against Ingleborough as well as becoming the overall winners. As an umpire it is exciting to umpire  a game that could go either way, this was true for the remaining fixtures. Whernside V Penny-G-Ghent ended in a brilliant 5 all draw that had me running up and down the side line trying to keep up with the game play. Then followed Ingleborough V Penn-Y-Ghent, once again another close game that had everyone on the edge of their seats as the ball passes and intercepted across the court. After nine minuets of play neither team could be broke and the match finished with a 2 all draw.

In the rugby it was once again Penn-Y-Ghent that can hold their head high as they triumphed over Whernside and Ingleborough. Mr Barrass, who was officiating, commented on the maturity and respect shown by the Yr9 boys to both peers and staff. Although Penn-Y-Ghent were the overall winners Ingleborough and Whernside did not let their houses down, they dug their heels in and played their hearts out resulting in Ingleborough finishing second followed by a resilient Whernside team.

I would like to take the time to thank all the year 9 students who took part, you made it a pleasure to officiate and the enthusiasm you showed was outstanding.

Y8 Kick Start Inter-House Competition

Friday saw Yr8 play the 1st matches of the inter-house competitions. Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-Y-Ghent went head to head in Netball and Rugby to win vital house points.

The girls battled it out in 3 close games of Netball. Ingleborough fought hard and were rewarded for their efforts with wins in both matches. Whernside were hot on their tails and came in second after a victory over Penn-Y-Ghent. Coming in third Penn-Y-Ghent, who should be commended for the resilience shown by each of their players.

Over on the field the boys showed true Yorkshire grit and impressed Mr Hill with their Rugby skills. Penn-Y-Ghent were the dominant team winning all their games. However, it was Whernside Vs Ingleborough that turned out to be the match of the competition. Both teams equally matched slogged it out but Whernside took and early lead. Ingleborough though never let their head drop and played tremendously scoring two late trys to win the game.

Amazing effort by every student, bring on Yr7&9 later this week.
